Mutare is situated in the mountains of the Eastern Highlands about 100km from Nyanga, and is possibly the most beautiful city in Zimbabwe. It is strategically placed on the border with Mozambique and is the centre for timber, tea, coffee, fruits and horticultural industries. Manufacturing companies in the city produce cardboard, newsprint, glass, textiles, processed food, confectionary and assembled vehicles.
The town of about 75,000 inhabitants has fully serviced residential, commercial and industrial areas and is the gateway to tourism areas such as Chimanimani, Vumba and Nyanga.

About half an hour's drive from this town are the misty mountains of Vumba which holds many beautiful tourist spots as well as the internationally acclaimed Leopard Rock which boasts a championship golf course. Forests, rippling streams and the peace and quiet of these mountains make Vumba a favourite tourist destination.

As well as being a tourist destination, Vumba has many farms on which coffee, tobacco and fruits are grown to name a few. Crops like coffee favour the terrain and high rainfall of the Vumba.
