Hwange town is the agricultural centre of the area. Because of the low rainfall, cattle ranching is the most favourable indsutry. South of the town lies the Hwange National Park. The small town has grown around the coal fields and most of its inhabitants work at Hwange Colliery.

Hwange National Park was started in 1929 and is Zimbabwe's largest National Park. It is over 14,000 square km's and holds many different varieties of wildlife.
