Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe which is sited at 1,500m on the central plateau between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers, and spreads across a 70km area of high density housing and posh suburbs, as well as encompassing Chitungwiza in the south. It is the commercial and industrial business centre of the country and houses about 1,500,000 inhabitants. |
New buildings and construction work regularly change the outlook of the skyline of this 100 year old city, with plans for large commercial enterprises to service high and middle-density housing estates.

The capital is a hive of activity, surrounded by some of the richest farmland and home to the world's largest tobacco sales floors and multinational mining houses. Not far from the city are some tastes of the wild in the form of Mukuvisi Woodlands where you can view elephant, rhino amongst other game with the Lion and Cheetah park holding the more agressive big cats. Lake Chivero has its own nature sanctuary and the Bird gardens contain many different species of birds.
The Kopje is an historical hill with a history of being fought over by Shona chiefs because of the year round water that lay below it as well as the fertile soil surrounding it. It is a popular view site where one can see Harare city and its surrounding areas.

Shopping is one of the main attractions of the city, with many local craft centres offering sculptures, carvings and local artwork portraying the culture of the country. Health services are provided by three public hospitals, several private hospitals, clinics and trauma centres. A private ambulance service is on offer to subscribers as well as tourists.
A wide range of education facilities are on offer from government and private schools and colleges to several universities and polytechs. The University of Zimbabwe is situated in the capital and offers a wide range of courses.
