Gweru is Zimbabwe's third largest and most central city. It houses approximately 200,000 inhabitants and is the capital of the Midlands Province. Gweru is a thriving industrial, commercial, agricultural and educational centre with all the modern amenities that one would expect. It is situated on the main link of rail between Bulawayo and Harare and is the principal rail junction with lines radiating to Masvingo, Shurugwi, Zvishavane and the Lowveld.

Gweru is Zimbabwe's main import/export centre as well as being the most accessible industrial centre to overseas markets through South Africa to the South and Mozambique to the east.The first stands of what was to become Gweru City were surveyed in June 1894. Since that time Gweru has progressed from a Sanitary Board to Municipal status on 18th June, 1914 and it attained City Status in October 1971. |
